Staying Cool in the Hot Summer Heat

Outfit ideas to keep you cool at the office during summer and beat the summer heat.

Why is it in the middle of winter we long for the summer heat, then as soon as temperatures begin to rise we complain wishing winter was back! With summer now in full swing, and the days already counting down to the end – let’s enjoy the heat and do all we can to beat the summer heat.

If you’re anything like us, fashion never takes a backseat while you try and survive the heat waves of summer, and it shouldn’t have to. With these simple steps on how to stay cool and be sweat free this summer.

During the work week, staying work appropriate and cool in summer can be a challenge. Sometimes we just want to throw on our swim suit and be able to jump in a pool (I know we have felt like this in the past week!). When choosing your workweek wardrobe for summer, there are a few simple things to keep in mind to make the day more comfortable…

Choose Loose Layers for the Office

While your office most likely has the AC blasting, the commute between home and work may not be as fortunate. Just like the winter months, wear layers. This allows you to add or take away depending on where your day brings you. Opting for loose layers will help your body breathe and stay cool, even in the heat.

Avoid Synthetic Fabrics

Fabrics like polyester and nylon as these trap heat and air against your body, causing your body temperatures to rise and cause more sweating.

Opt for clothes that are made from natural fibers like cotton, bamboo, silk, wool and linen. This will make it easier for your body to breathe and cool itself down during the hot days. These fabrics also have a more luxurious feel to them keeping you comfortable throughout the day, and in the hot summer heat feeling comfortable is something that can be hard to come by. Consider layering an undershirt under your dresses and tops to eliminate the lingering heat and sweat, this will help your body to cool itself down faster.

Skip the Fancy Footwear

For the summer months be smart and make sure your footwear is: appropriate, practical and comfortable. If you can, choose a short heel and if you can’t try to find a shoe that has a chunky heel.

As the heat generally causes our feet to swell, try to avoid shoes with an overwhelming amount of straps! These will cause your feet to swell more and as the day draws to an end it can become uncomfortable. On hot, hot days try wearing an open shoe, as this will also aid in your bodies ability to cool itself down.

Heatwave Beauty Routine

Get creative with your hairstyles! Try some different ways to pull the hair off your face and the back of your neck. Eliminating the weight of your hair on your back will cool you down and allow a breeze to get to you easier.

The best tools to keep in your work bag to beat the summer heat:

  1. Milk Makeup Cooling Water: for quick refreshers throughout the day
  2. Boscia Green Tea Blotting Linens: helps eliminate oil and shine, while the green tea extract helps cool the skin
  3. Leaves of Trees Natural Deodorants: it is so discreet you won’t mind carrying it around in your purse

With that all said and done, there is no real way to beat the summer heat! Stay hydrated during the heat waves and keep small snacks on hand. Try to keep comfort in your mind while dressing for the heat, as you don’t want to be dealing with shifting waist bands, constrictive tops all while trying to stay cool and dry.
