For many of us the start of a new year marks the start of a new you and a fresh start; a time to break bad habits and form new positive ones. Making a list of goals for the new year is the easy part, the tough part can be sticking to your plan. We’ve come up with a list of tips you help keep you on track to achieving your goals for a better and happier you in 2017!
Pick One Thing
The problem a lot of people run into with their new year’s resolutions is that their lists are too long, and it’s hard to balance, so try to focus on one thing or two smaller things. Change is overwhelming and to give yourself your best shot at success pick one thing to work on.
Keep It Simple
Keep your resolutions simple and attainable. If you set the bar too high, you could be setting yourself up for disappointment. Try and be as specific as possible in order to make the end goal more attainable.
Make a Plan
The first thing you need to have is a start date! It doesn’t have to necessarily be January 1st, but have a clear date set. Have a plan ready to help you along the way. Map out small steps you can take one day at a time, or even weekly, to reach your goal. Try not to do too much at once, take your time, so that you don't burn out and give up.
Plan Rewards
Small rewards are a great source of encouragement to help you achieve your goals. If you can plan out small rewards as benchmarks of your success it can make achieving your resolutions more enjoyable and less of chore increasing your chances of being successful.
Have Patience
Change is a process and doesn’t just happen overnight. If your goal is to break a habit or start a new you need to give yourself time. Bad habits are not created overnight, they often took years to develop, and so they won’t be changed that easily.
Whatever your goals are for 2017 just go for it and we wish you the best of luck!
